Wilson Family History
Floyd and Helen Wilson were born in 1950 and
raised on dairy farms near Uxbridge, Ontario. Since Helen’s maiden name
was Wilson before she married Floyd, the children who were born to them
can be considered doubly Wilson.
Although both Floyd and Helen had a Christian family heritage, in
childhood they each made a personal decision to receive Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. In addition to their parents’ Christian teaching and
example, they were influenced by the Bible teaching ministry of Bible
Club Movement missionaries in their public school classrooms and at
Crusaders Bible Camp.
Floyd and Helen’s childhood church experiences were in the United
and Presbyterian churches respectively. However, by their teenage years
each was attending Uxbridge Baptist Church, along with their
parents.
After graduating from Uxbridge Secondary School Helen worked
for two years, then attended Ontario Bible College for one year.
Floyd graduated from Port Perry High School and then earned a
Bachelor of Arts degree at McMaster University.
After their wedding in 1972, Floyd and Helen
moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where Floyd earned a Master of Divinity degree
from
Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. During this three-year period,
the summer of 1973 was spent in Uxbridge and the summer of 1974 in
Sudbury, Ontario where Floyd served as pastoral assistant at First
Baptist Church and Helen in the accounting department at Memorial
Hospital.
Following his
seminary studies, Floyd became pastor of Harmony
Road Baptist Church in Oshawa, Ontario. While serving there, Rachel,
Andrew, and Sarah were born. In 1984, the Wilson family moved to London,
Ontario where Floyd was pastor of Sunrise Baptist Church.
During these years, Esther and Deborah were born.
Then, in 1992, the Wilson family moved to
Sudbury, Ontario where Floyd became pastor of Calvary
Baptist Church. Rebekah, the sixth and last child of the family was
born in Sudbury where the Wilson family continues to reside.
After many years of investing time, energy, and
money in the lives of one boy and five girls, Floyd and Helen are now in the
process of sending these "arrows" out into the world. (See Psalm 127:3-5)
Floyd and Helen anticipate continuing to serve with their family
in ministry for as long as the Lord gives them strength. Praise the Lord!
